This was an experiment with the Korean buncheong technique. I got new tools in Korea and wanted to use them and eventually make my own. This technique is done by first making a mug and then carving a design into it being very careful to not carve through the body of the mug. After that I cake white slip into the carving and let it dry for about a day. Once it has dried I scrape away the extra white slip. This is tricky because it I scratch off too much I could put a hole in the mug but if I don’t scratch enough it’s just a white blob. I was extremely focused and you can see that in the video I posted on tiktok haha. This mug says meow because I thought someone would think it’s funny and want it. If meow isn’t your style I’ve got some fish, snails and swans on other pots!

When can I pick up my finished work

Your work will be done 4 weeks after your class. It takes time for pieces to be fired, painted and fired again.

Can you promise my pottery will survive the kiln?

Unfortunately sometimes pieces are lost during firing. We will do everything we can to protect your pottery but cannot guarantee its survival.

Can I wheel throw with long nails?

Chances are slim. You might want to stick to hand building!
