About Dax Newman

Daxton unexpectedly discovered pottery in high school during a 3D design class. He was instantly drawn to the wheel and rushed through other mediums/projects to get free time on the wheel. For his 17th birthday, he received a pottery wheel and set it up in an old playhouse in his family's Southern California backyard. There, The Pot Shed was born. A dedication to creativity and a place to connect online with people around the world.

What began as a backyard passion soon caught the worlds attention. During the 2020 shutdown, Dax's laid back SoCal vibe, and effortless skill captivated millions on TikTok.

Off-screen, Dax's work speaks for itself. His handmade pottery has found homes in over 75 countries, admired for it's balance of simplicity, precision and natural beauty. Though largely self-taught, Dax later deepened his craft through a live-in art residence at a renowned Northern California pottery studio.

Part Korean, he draws deep inspiration from traditional Korean ceramics. This passion led him to Korea where he was able to travel and learn from multiple potters. Meeting a Korean Master recognized as one of the nation's six Intangible Cultural Treasures was a highlight to Dax's time in Korea.

When he's not behind the wheel, Dax's creativity continues to flow - he designs his own clothing, experiments with metal forging and finds inspiration rock climbing and exploring the outdoors.

For Dax, pottery isn't about clay - it's about slowing down, staying grounded and finding beauty in imperfection.

It's time for something new

Dax is opening a pottery studio where you can experience the joy of pottery for yourself.

Whether you're a complete beginner or looking to refine your skills, the studio is a space to learn, create, and connect with others who share a love for working with clay. Come throw on the wheel, hand-build your own pieces, and discover what makes pottery so addictive.
